This website has been update for all MLC 2006 Amendments until and including the 2022 Amendments.
2014 MLC 2006 Amendments
On the 18th of January 2017 two new amendments regarding financial security for seafarers in case of abandonment (reg 2.5) and contractual claims for compensation in the event of a seaferer’s death or long term disability (reg 4.2) have come into force. These amendments resulted in an extension of the DMLC parts I and II with points 15 and 16.
2016 MLC 2006 Amendments
On the 8th of January 2019 the 2016 Amendments came into force. These amendments are related to Regulation 4.3 and concern the extention of Guideline 4.3.1 - Provisions on occupational accidents, injuries and diseases with the following obligation: Account should be taken to the latest version of the “Guidance on eliminating shipboard harassment and bullying”, jointly published by the International Chamber of Shipping and the International Transport Workers’ Federation.
2018 MLC 2006 Amendments
On the 26th of December 2020 the 2018 amendments came into force about the continuance of SEA’s, payment of wages and related rights of seafarers while a seafarer is held captive as a result of piracy or armed robbery against ships.
2022 MLC 2006 Amendments
On the 23rd of December 2024, the 2022 MLC Amendments came into force. Some of these amendments concern obligations for the Member States only. For shipowners these amendments contain messures on recreational facilities, food, personal protective equipment and small changes in documentary evidence of financial security:
- Standard A3.1 and Guideline B3.1.11 recreational facilities: concerning social connectivity, adapted to the special needs of seafarers, including reasonable access to ship-to-shore telephone communications, where available, and internet access. Charges shall be reasonable in amount.
- Standard A3.2: Provide food and drinking water free of charge and make sure that meals provided are nutritious, balanced, of sufficient quantity and quality. Food is to be prepared in hygienic conditions and with regard to the religious and cultural practices of the seafarers on board.
- Standard A 4.3: Make sure that all seafarers are provided with appropriately sized personal protective equipment as a means to prevent occupational accidents, injuries and diseases on board.
- Appendix A2-1 & Appendix A4-1: The certificate(s) or other documentary evidence of financial security required under Standard A2.5.2 and A4.2.1 may now include the name of the registered owner of the ship instead of, and if different to, the name of the shipowner.
